It is best to always make sure that you have duplicates made of photos so that if any get damaged you do not lose the captured moment.
Many people will even go so far as to create a large collage complete with comments on the pictures. You can sand down the frame and paint it red, green, gold, or any combination. If the wood is thick, so add a narrow strip of green and red satin ribbon all around the frame in the middle. It is simple but elegant and with the photos, is a huge hit.

Take a wooden picture frame with a flat face. Sand it down to remove previous paint then add a coat of clear gloss. Allow for proper ventilation and allow time to dry. Next, alternate painting the frame around the edge with red and green high gloss paint then allow for more time to dry. Use wood glue or a hot glue gun to affix decorations around the frame. Use your imagination and allow them to pick the decorations. A fun and productive time!
